Sushruta Samhita: Why a 2,500-Year-Old Indian Text Is Still Cited in Modern Surgery Journals

Sushruta cataloged 121 surgical instruments and described nasal reconstruction and cataract removal in the 6th century BCE. Germany’s Carl Ferdinand von Graefe, the father of modern plastic surgery, credited Sushruta directly. India built the world’s first surgical textbook.
